Steps to take when hiring a new Administration Professional
1. Make sure you know exactly what type of administration person you are looking for, what background / skills they should have, who they will report to. The salary package will be what defines what type of person you will hire.
2. Write out a full job description: A template for this can be found on HERE
3. Select a start date you would like the successful candidate to be on board. This helps decision making and stops procrastination.
4. Sources to find suitable candidates:

Word of mouth - Ask existing staff - give bonus on successful hire of €500

Ask suppliers / customers and anyone local do they know anyone?

Advertise on

5. Once you have selected a few suitable candidates for interview, moving process quickly as they will also be interviewing with other employer's.
6. Once you have selected No. 1 candidate, offer verbally, agree salary and agree start date. Check 2 references of previous customer and employer if possible but don't scare away candidate.
7. Make sure letter of offer covers all EC legislative directives.
8. Keep in touch on regular basis before start date, pref for few hours’ in-house training to meet other staff and welcome them into company.
Finally, we get reports back of candidates not turning up for interviews or even start dates. Don't take it personally, it happens a lot of companies. Just make sure you have a good pipeline of candidate's to handle the possible fall off's.
