Why 95% of CV's Fail

Are you failing to get called for interview and don’t know why!!

Looking for a new job can be a frustrating business with many jobseekers falling as quickly as the first hurdle. Some jobseekers struggle and they are unable to secure interviews. If you are struggling for to get called for interviews there can be a number of possible causes which I have outlined below.

You are not applying for jobs

I regularly get phone calls from jobseekers seeking CV redesign. When I review their CV I find a fairly decent document. I then investigate job market activity and this shines a light on the fact that the jobseeker has not been putting in the effort. If you don’t buy the ticket you can’t win the lotto. Job hunting takes time and effort. You must initiate action before you can get results. You need to be honest with yourself and if you are not making the effort you cannot expect results.

You do not match the minimum requirements for the jobs you want.

If you are not getting called for interview there is a chance you are applying for jobs that you do not meet the minimum experience, background or qualifications. Hiring managers will often reject a CV without further exploration. You can either look for suitable jobs or persist. If you do persist you must try different approaches and try to get feedback. Some ideas include calling the employer before you email your CV as this will attach some personality to your CV. If you meet rejection you should request feedback to identify how you can achieve your goal or what other options are available. Rejection can be soul destroying when job hunting so get creative.

Poor CV preparation

Then there is the obvious fact that the CV is not making an impact. I view some very poor CV’s that don’t get the basics right. They have poor spelling and grammar, poor format, too much detail, too little detail or they lack of focus. A CV is the first point of contact with most employers and often the only contact. Spend time developing a CV that will do you justice and improve your chances of meeting employers.
