AdminJobs.ie Socialising Survey

We found that one third of Irish employees check their social networking page between 1 and 3 times during their working day and 1 in 10 of respondents say they are addicted to their Facebook/myspace/Bebo page, checking up to 4 or more times a day.

This is in contrast to what the employer said with 69% questioned commenting that they don’t think it’s acceptable for employees to check their social networking page at work. The remaining 31% said ‘once in your working day’ is adequate.

Our survey also found that Irish workers shouldn’t fear employers snooping on their page to find out what they get up to in their spare time, as a staggering 94% of employers said they wouldn’t check employee’s networking pages.

Asking a colleague to be your “friend” on your networking site seems to split opinion with over 57% of those questioned saying they would ask someone they worked with the join their page. The remaining responding with answers such as “business and pleasure don’t mix”.

Separating your social and work life seems to be a common thread among Irish workers – 85% of Irish employees questioned go out with colleagues once a month or less, with 13% never going for that after work pint.

But the West of Ireland seems to love to party with 100% replying to the Adminjobs.ie survey that they would go out every week with work colleagues!

On a more serious note, 34% of those questioned said that they were not getting ample support from their commpany. 42% of those felt that they weren’t receiving enough training in order to do their job effectively and 27.3% said that their work load was too heavy in their current role.

When questioned about the ideal working scenario, surprisingly we found that almost 52% of those questioned would like to work full time office based, with just 7% choosing to work from home if possible.

Looking ahead to 2008, we discovered that the main reason for people thinking about moving roles in the New Year was not surprisingly better pay. The option to move to a better known company closely followed with 34.8% of respondents. With the end of year in sight, 24.5% of those questioned felt that a poor bonus would cause them to think of looking at roles elsewhere.
