How to Handle Counter Offers

WHY YOU SHOULD NEARLY ALWAYS TURN DOWN A COUNTER OFFER

• What kind of company makes you threaten to leave before they offer you what you’re worth?

• Where is the money coming from? Is the counter offer just your next pay rise given early?

• The company will immediately start looking for someone else to do your job for less pay.

• Now your boss knows you aren’t happy. From now on, your loyalty will always be questioned.

• At promotion time, only the people your boss THINKS are loyal will have a chance.

• When times get tough, the cut-backs will start with you.

• Counter offers rarely change the circumstances that made you want to leave in the first place.

Statistics show after accepting a counter offer, the probability that you will voluntarily leave within six months, or be let go within one year is extremely high.
